Sustainable m:con
"Green" Days
The m:con (mannheim:congress) would like to emphasize its prominent standing in questions of sustainability in the branch of Congress and Event Agencies.
The m:con has, from this day forth, obtained the right to call itself a "Sustainable Company powered by FAMAB". The FAMAB, Association for Direct Business Communications Specialists (Verband Direkte Wirtschaftskommunikation e.V. ) has compiled a list of standards for sustainable business practices in the area of Live Communication. The aim of these standards is to set down practical business criteria which on the one hand should be relatively self-explanatory yet sometimes need to be reiterated, e.g. the renouncement of child labor and which on the other side take into consideration the segmentation of the branch and the procedural nature of its services. Enterprises are to be made aware of all of the issues surrounding the question of acting sustainably.
The m:con has for some time already maintained an important partnership with the United Nations in New York. It is a member of the "Global Compact" - an initiative started by the former UN General Secretary Kofi Annan - and has been successfully implementing the worldwide trend of green activity in the area of hosting Congresses and Conferences. The m:con's goal is to make an active contribution to this subject, to adopt social responsibility and to put ecological standards first on the agenda.
BIONADE and NESPRESSO are the m:con's newest service suppliers of soft drink refreshments.
BIONADE is worldwide the only soft drink that is produced in a purely biological method by fermenting only natural ingredients. BIONADE is a soft drink with the seal of natural quality. The official "Bio-Seal" of the EU Ecological Inspection Authorities ensures that BIONADE has been produced according to the Laws of Purity.
In 2009, NESPRESSO pledged that by the year 2013, it would obtain 80% of the coffee from the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality TM Program with the Rainforest Alliance certification. By the end of the year 2010 already 60% of its coffee came from this program.
The m:con works exclusively with print shops that are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or/and PEFC (Pan-European Forest Certification)certified. All of our paper material is printed ecologically on FCS paper obtained from sustainable forestry.

Sustainable Company endorsed by FAMAB
Branch Specific Certificate for Sustainability
The FAMAB, (Verband Direkte Wirtschaftskommunikation e.V. ) has , together with a commodity team of well known partners such as CO2OL and Viabono, compiled a list of standards for sustainable business practices in the area of Live Communication.
The goal of these standards, completed in the middle of 2011, was to set down practical business criteria which on the one hand should be relatively self-explanatory yet sometimes need to be reiterated, e.g. the renouncement of child labor and which on the other side take into consideration the segmentation of the branch and the procedural nature of its services. Based on this comprehensive criteria catalogue for the nine branches, Enterprises will be made aware of all of the issues surrounding the question of acting sustainably and should they successfully pass the examination bear the seal of "Sustainable Company endorsed by FAMAB".
Our Print Shops are FSC or PEFC certified
We work exclusively with print shops that are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or/and PEFC (Pan-European Forest Certification) certified. All of our paper material is printed ecologically on FCS paper obtained from sustainable forestry.
FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council and is an international certification system used in forestry that ensures that wood and paper products are derived from forests which have been administrated and cared properly. In administrating or caring for such a forest, environmental as well as social standards must be adhered to for proper handling.
NESPRESSO
In 2009, NESPRESSO pledged that by the year 2013, it would obtain 80% of the coffee from the Nespresso AAA Sustainable QualityTM Program with the Rainforest Alliance certification. By the end of the year 2010 already 60% of its coffee came from this program.
The program consists of the following: general support; continuous education and technical assistance; assistance with financial planning, helping to help themselves; cooperation with INCAE, in order to achieve a better understanding of the profitability of coffee plantations.
The name AAA Sustainable QualityTM program is a derivative of the original AA classification standards for foodstuffs, which established a rating for the highest quality of coffees from countries such as Kenya and other leading coffee producing regions. Nespresso added the third A to symbolize the ecological, social and economic standards that have been reached.
The First A: QUALITY
- We advise and help the coffee plantation owners on how to implement the optimal processes in the growing and cultivation of coffee beans in order to ensure that they are of the highest standards and quality.
The Second A: SUSTAINABILITY
- We show the coffee plantation owners how to act in a more environmentally friendly way and to adapt a sense of social responsibility towards their work.
The Third A: PRODUCTIVITY
- We help the coffee plantation owners to increase their productivity in accordance with the Real Farmer IncomeTM concept and at the same time how to introduce measures that will decrease costs, thereby increasing their net income.
- In 2007 we received 2 prizes from external organizations for our trend-setting work in the area of the sustainable cultivation of coffee: The "Corporate Green Globe Award" for Enterprises which show an exceptional effort in the area of the promotion of sustainability (awarded by the Rainforest Alliance)
- The "Leadership Medal of Merit Award" for a visionary project when developing and implementing the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality program (awarded by the Coffee Quality Institute)
